Cyprus Rugby Team Triumph in Beirut!

Cyprus was invited to participate in the Inaugural Beirut International Ten a Side Rugby Union Tournament held on 11th and 12th of June at the Jamhour stadium in Beirut. This was the first time that Cyprus had sent a rugby team abroad, and in a thrilling final beat the host team and pre-tournament favorites, the Beirut Phoenicians, by just one point to retain their unbeaten run in the tournament and return to Cyprus with the Cible de Pierre Fabre Trophy, awarded to them by the Lebanese Minister of Sport.

Altogether six teams qualified for the tournament; Cairo, Jordan, Cyprus and three teams from the Lebanon. Each team playing each other in a round robin format and then a series of three finals between 1st and 2nd for the Cible de Pierre Fabre Trophy, 3rd and 4th for the Degremont Trophy, and 5th and 6th for the Notre Dame Jamhour Trophy. Each team therefore, faced a demanding schedule of five group games and a final over the two days of the tournament.
